Airbrushing

With the new technology of high definition television (HDTV), make- up artists have to add the skills of airbrushing to their repertoire. Both HDTV and digital photography show every detail to the extreme. Therefore, standard make-up looks far too heavy and false in these mediums.

By using a compressor and airbrush gun, micronized make-up is dispersed so finely that, if applied correctly, it cannot be seen. It gives invisible coverage. There are several different formulas of foundation that can be used. Hydro (water base) gives a natural, dewy look and is most often used on the face. Silicone and alcohol base foundations are non-transferrable so they are good choices to cover tattoos, birthmarks and for use on areas where clothing may rub against the body.

The airbrush course at Award Studio provides you with techniques for using MAC silicone base and Kett Hydro base foundations. You will also learn to cover, do stenciling, mix colors for blush and eyeshadow and much more. These new skills are essential for every media make-up artist. You can also charge more for weddings if you do airbrushing. The compressor, gun and airbrush make-up is available at Award Studio at a student discount. The fee for the Airbrushing Class is only $150 and it is required that you take this along with the Media Make-up Class. (Other places charge $300-$700.) But, as always, we want to help you by keeping our prices low. We would not be credible if we graduated media make-up artists without airbrushing skills. Therefore, it is mandatory that this class is taken with the Media Make-up Class. We will just add this class in during the week. Click here for Airbrushing Makeup Class enrollment information.
